Album Review: Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - 'Smoking In Heaven'

http://static.nme.com/images/article/kitty_daisy_lewis_camden_crawl_2009_TC_007.jpg
What’s shocking about the Durham siblings’ band isn’t that their youngest member is still a teenager, but the fact that they’re still on only their second album. Festival stalwarts and vintage sonics trailblazers, their no-fuss rhythm and blues has little truck with reinventing the wheel and fizzes with the simple joy of creation.

The soft swagger of ‘Don’t Make A Fool Out Of Me’ sets a modest melody against an undeniable groove, and ‘You’ll Soon Be Here’ radiates with the warmth of a junk store 78. Oddly, ‘Messing With My Life’ sounds like The Kooks filtered through a bebopping Ella Fitzgerald and – even odder – is bloody great.

A genre-hating musician with roots everywhere from Toronto to Trinidad, k-os lets his music sprawl across the disparate worlds of hip-hop, reggae, electronic music, indie rock, soul and so on. As such, it's tough to place him within any given scene — which is no doubt what he had in mind — but k-os' socially conscious songwriting and charisma have helped him win a crop of loyal fans anyway. His newest album is 2009's Yes!

Recorded live at The Gorge on Saturday, May 28, k-os performs here as part of the 2011 Sasquatch Music Festival outside Seattle, Wash.

The reclusive singer has revealed that she is too focused on the new material to hit the road, but she has almost finished writing her new album.

Despite early rumours that she could be ready to make a return to live performance, Kate Bush has revealed that she has no plans to perform live again.
The singer was talking to BBC 6 Music when she said she was “too engrossed” in writing new material to consider going on tour.
“I haven’t got any plans to do any live shows whatsoever. I’m too engrossed in trying to make new material,” she said. “I’m extremely flattered that people are interested.”
The last time Bush went on tour was back in 1979, which was actually the only time the reclusive singer has ever hit the road. Last month she had hinted that wanted to play some more live shows before she “became too ancient.”
She had almost completed the writing process of a brand new album, which would follow on from her recently released “Directors Cut” album which used re-recorded material from her Sensual World and The Red Shoes albums.

Kate Bush writing new album

 http://www.tourdates.co.uk/resources/GetImage-DN-19057-1.jpg
Kate Bush is working on a new record.

The 'Hounds of Love' singer has just released 'The Director's Cut' which saw her re-record tracks from her 'Sensual World' and 'Red Shoes' albums, but said she is also writing her first original material since 2005's 'Aerial'.

She told BBC Radio 6: "I'm working on a new record. It's all kinds of bits and pieces, really. There's always ideas buzzing around, but it's whether they actually end up materialising into a song. It's quite an elusive process."

It could take a long time for Kate's next album to appear, however, as she is renowned for her slow work rate - having produced just ten albums in her 33 year career.

Kate also quashed rumours she would tour for a second time, after her one and only Tour of Life. which took place in 1979.

She added: "People always presume I didn't enjoy that tour. I did enjoy it.

"But I haven't got any plans to do any live shows whatsoever. I'm very much engrossed in trying to making new material. I'm extremely flattered that people are interested."

'The Director's Cut' is out now.

Music Review: Zoobombs - La Vie En Jupon

I started writing because I had something to say. It was all very organic at first, very righteous and very pure. I didn't worry much about what other people thought. I just pumped out whatever bullshit there was rolling around in my head. I didn't care what it came out as; I didn't mind if I sounded like an emotional basketcase or a bullshit artist. I didn't mind if I had my facts right. I wrote to write; I did it because it put a smile on my face.

I was 10.

The Zoobombs approach music like I first approached writing. You know, before the fucking Internet and before the trap of trying to please everyone rears its ugly head. Somewhere in the innocence and purity of pure fun, the Zoobombs are having a hell of a time while the rest of us piss and moan.

La Vie En Jupon is an invite to join them. The Tokyo-based rockers came to be when Don Matsuo (guitars, vocals), Matta (keyboards), Pocky (drums), and Moostop (bass) joined forces to crank out some seriously awesome music. Having performed live in support of acts like the Flaming Lips and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Zoobombs' unique and fiery brand of rock, funk and blues has been astonishing and shit-kicking audiences the world over.

I'm not even going to begin trying to tell you where La Vie En Jupon fits in the discography of these guys. It is their latest, so let's go with that. I'm sure someone'll be along to tell us.

What you do need to know, if you don't know already, is how fucking manic the Zoobombs are with their approach to - let's be fair - everything. There are few moments on the record that don't require absolute commitment to the groove and nothing but the groove. These are funky rock gods, dedicated entirely to the cause of moving feet and shaking asses. In that order.

La Vie En Jupon opens with "Way In/Way Out," a nine-and-a-half-minute slice of heaven that almost feels like an Oasis song - handclaps included. If you take a shot for every "come on," you'll be pretty loaded by the time this swinger draws to an electric finish.

Elsewhere, Zoobombs uncork bottles of chunky blues ("Builbone Blues") and chaotic, ripping punk and noise ("Jeff"). Travel as they do through a couple of related styles, the constancy of absolute fun tears through every moment of this album.

If La Vie En Jupon has any sort of message, it's that it's high time to give the pretenses a rest. Who are we trying to fool? Sure, sometimes life sucks. Sometimes life really sucks. Sometimes...well, you know. But sometimes when life hands you balls, you have to hit it back right in the kisser with Zoobombs.

Taylor Swift wrote a song in an airport toilet

http://media.monstersandcritics.com/articles3/1641656/article_images/headline_1306415241.jpgCountry music starlet Taylor Swift has proved that she can literally write a song anywhere as she admits she once penned some lyrics in an airport bathroom.

The Story of Us singer says an idea for a tune can come to her at any time, so she has to quickly write her ideas down before she forgets them.

She told MTV: 'The weirdest place I have ever written a song is probably in an airport, and I got an idea so fast that I just had to run to the bathroom at the airport, grab a paper towel and write lyrics on the paper towel. I still have it. I still have it in a box in my room.'

The 21-year-old says she has already begun working on the follow-up to her current album Speak Now.

Taylor added: 'I was in Madrid, and I was in my hotel room all day. And I was going through this crazy, emotional thing and I wrote a song about it and it will probably be on the next record.

'I'm telling you that. I'll tell you the title afterwards.'

Review: Brad Paisley’s ‘This Is Country Music’

http://medya.todayszaman.com/todayszaman/2011/05/25/music.jpg
Calling an album “This Is Country Music” is rather clever in its simplicity, decisively answering a hotly debated topic before anyone else has a definitive say.

What is country music? Well, Brad Paisley will tell you: There’s a lot of banjo and steel guitar, a few songs about love, and obviously, Clint Eastwood is involved.

And if someone’s going to define the genre, why not Paisley, he of the soothing voice and utterly adorable love songs? His success over the years, thanks to twangy guitar skills and irresistible hooks, qualifies him for the task as much as anyone.

“This is real, this is your life, in a song,” Paisley tells us on “This Is Country Music,” the title track of his ninth studio album and first single, which rocketed up the Billboard country charts this year. And when he implies country music is simply people’s lives in song form, Paisley’s not kidding. In the 15-song album, he attempts to cover anything that could possibly happen to anyone… ever.

Topics include the ultra-serious -- a child with cancer in “One of Those Lives” and hell-on-Earth scenarios in “A Man Don’t Have to Die.” But skip a few tracks, and there’s “Working on a Tan,” about college girls lying out on the beach and the frat guys who ogle them, and “Old Alabama,” the infectious ode to country living featuring Alabama band members themselves. Of course, no one does it’s-the-little-things-in-life love songs better than Paisley. Carrie Underwood lights up the ballad “Remind Me,” in which a couple reminisces about the good old days.

While it’s an enjoyable listen, there are no real surprises -- at this point, Paisley knows what works. And by the time the western actor shows up to guest-whistle his way through an instrumental track appropriately called “Eastwood,” it’s clear that Paisley has tackled so many topics and sounds that he thinks country music is… well, pretty much whatever you want it to be. © The Washington Post 2011

Def Leppard guitarist’s Manraze: new album details revealed

manrazedeadbody Def Leppard guitarists Manraze: new album details revealedLike a mixture of dangerous chemicals, equal parts guitarist extraordinaire, rudeboy rock drummer, and the righteous rhythms of a badass bass player and all together you have one hell of an explosive combination. Add to this concoction the experience of selling 75 million records and the attitude that comes from being at the top of your game and you’ve got Manraze. This London-based alternative/nuwave rock band was formed by iconic lead guitarist Phil Collen of Def Leppard. The band members include punk rock forerunner Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols on drums and Simon Laffy, rockin’ bass player of Collen‘s former glam-band, Girl. The long awaited and highly anticipated sophomore album for these revolutionaries of rock, titled “punkfunkrootsrock”, will be unleashed upon the masses on August 2 through Rocket Science Ventures in the U.S. and Canada. The album will also be released July 27 in Japan on Nippon/Columbia and in the Europe via Edel Music. In addition, a limited-edition version will be available for order in the U.S. as soon as June 1.
Prior to the album’s summer release, the first single, “Over My Dead Body”, is set to hit iTunes on May 31. “Over My Dead Body” is a hard-hitting track combining a mixture of fiery The Rolling Stones‘ foot-stomping rhythms and Sex Pistols‘ over-the-top energetic drum beats.
For fans that pre-order the album, an acoustic version of the track will be offered as a free download. The remainder of the album’s twelve tracks feature many diverse genres including rock, soul and reggae dub, a perfect blend of influences each band member brings to the mix.
It all started in 2004 when Phil Collen, after 20-plus years as lead guitarist for Def Leppard, decided to express himself via another creative outlet – something a bit closer to his musical home. After a chance meeting on the street with Paul Cook, Manraze finally released their debut album, “Surreal”, through Universal Records in the summer of 2008 to rave reviews. The group’s debut album was chocked full of rebellious in-your-face mantras (“Turn it Up”, “This Is”, “Running Me Up”) ranging from hardcore punk to dub. Seen as a cross between the Foo Fighters, Green Day, Nirvana, Rage Against The MachineThe Police, Manraze is a response to the ever changing climate of multi-faceted music and should be heralded for far more than just being a ?rock band’. and
In the spring of 2011 the band’s single “I Superbiker” was the theme song for the feature documentary of the same name. Directed by Manraze music video director Mark Sloper, the film was released solely in the U.K. The documentary is an in-depth expose’ into the merciless world of competitive speed bike racing and a look at the men who have dedicated their entire existence to this incredibly dangerous, adrenaline based sport. Mark Sloper‘s camera follows four superbike riders through their dramatic, life-altering Superbike season. Manraze also released a promotional video for the song and film.

Grammy Award-winning Artist Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley Joins The Line-up Of 'reggae 4 Japan' Benefit Concert In New York

http://a1.top40-charts.com/thumb.php?x=342&i=http://top40-charts.com/images/news/reggae-for-japan.jpgThree-time Grammy Award-Winning artist Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley has officially joined the line-up of "Reggae 4 Japan," a benefit concert to support the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Effort of the American Red Cross on June 5, 2011 at the York College Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York. The addition of this world-renowned Reggae artist further solidifies the commitment of the Reggae music industry to aid Japan.

"Reggae 4 Japan" is produced by Japanese sound system and ambassador of Reggae music Mighty Crown and their management team Irish and Chin with executive sponsorship from VP Records. Additional sponsorship for the concert is being provided by Irie Jam Radio (official media sponsor), Scion, Rocker's Island, 24x7 Records, Woofin', NRL, Far East Connection, Nesta Brand, Bennett Limo, Riddim Driven and Conkur Printing.

"Japan has always had a great amount of fans support Reggae music and culture through out the years," says Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley. "It's only right that we give forward to lend some support to Japan in this much needed time."

Popular Reggae artist Mr. Vegas is also new to the line-up. The singjay's involvement in "Reggae 4 Japan" injects a Dancehall element. In addition, "Reggae 4 Japan" has a roster heavy-hitting Reggae artists, who boast exceptional catalogues of music, including Freddie McGregor and the Big Ship Family (Stephen Di Genius, Chino and Laden), Maxi Priest, Tarrus Riley, Capleton, Fire Ball (Japan's No 1 Dancehall/Reggae group), Tanya Stephens, Alaine, Gramps Morgan, Peter Morgan and Etana. Overall, Japan has played a strong role in the careers of most of the artists billed for the show. The artists deem their involvement with "Reggae 4 Japan" as a way of saying thanks and giving back.

The increased interest and support of "Reggae 4 Japan" by Reggae artists and industry professionals clearly displays that Japan is in the hearts and on the minds of the Reggae music industry. It brings Mighty Crown pleasure that the Reggae music industry boldly and swiftly responded to their heartfelt plea for help. "I am really happy to see so many artists participating in this charity event... this increase of involvement shows the love toward Japan and Reggae music," says Masta Simon, co-owner of Mighty Crown. "Respect to all artists who are supporting the event!"

"Irish and Chin has worked with Japan for well over a decade... a large part of our stronghold in the industry is due to our unique relationship with Japan's Reggae market," says Garfield "Chin" Bourne of Irish and Chin, co-producer of "Reggae 4 Japan" and Mighty Crown's manager. "Playing the role as producer for this benefit concert and lending my resources to this worthy cause is the least I can do to show my gratitude."

"We are showing our care and appreciation for Japan and thank our artists for donating their time and talent for such a good cause," says Chris Chin, owner of VP Records. "Ultimately, we would like to see large numbers of people come out to support this extremely important event."

"Reggae 4 Japan" will be an intimate staging with limited seating (less than 1500 seats). This unprecedented and historical benefit concert will mark the first official stage show of the summer in the New York Tri-state area and one of the strongest line-ups that New York has witnessed in quite some time. While the benefit concert is a U.S. based fundraising effort for Japan, Mighty Crown and members of their family have been on the ground in Japan lending their time, energy, effort and resources to provide assistance to people in the affected areas in the form of food, water, toys and music/entertainment. The Japanese sound system recognizes that there is still a lot of work to be done.

"Almost two months have passed and things are sill rough for the victims... lots of people are waiting for the government to build tentative houses, as things are moving slower than schedule," says Masta Simon. "Furthermore, the newspaper states that it will take at least three years to clean up the heap of rubble caused by the earthquake and tsunami."

"What the victims need is caring and love... this benefit concert will definitely be a relief for the victims in more ways than one... it shows a bond through Reggae music," adds Masta Simon passionately.

Immediately following the event, Mighty Crown and Irish and Chin will donate profits from "Reggae 4 Japan" in the form of a check to the American Red Cross, specifically to their Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Effort. To date, the American Red Cross has supported their partners the Japanese Red Cross with $100 million. Additionally, the American Red Cross is funding half of the UN World Food Programme's logistical operation in Japan for the delivery and storage of relief items at a cost of $500,000. The American Red Cross will continue to support their Japanese partners as they help survivors take an important step toward early recovery.

Since March 11, the Japanese Red Cross has been providing tens of thousands of Japanese with emergency relief, medical services, emotional counseling and now it's helping to equip 70,000 temporary homes with essential appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, rice cookers and microwave ovens. Additionally, the Japanese Red Cross, through local municipalities, will soon start to distribute cash grants to survivors.

Music Review: Bowling For Soup - Fishin' For Woos

Bowling For Soup started out as a group of snot-nosed young 'uns doing punky power pop anthems like "1985," which compares to the Fountains of Wayne classic "Stacy's Mom" from way back in 2003. The band has always been about rambunctious fun, never taking itself seriously.

Music Review: Mickey Newbury - An American Trilogy

Mickey Newbury is a forgotten gem in the annals of American singer/songwriters. His premature death in 2002 at the age of 62 contributed to his music disappearing into the musical mists of time. He is best remembered for his only hit single, “An American Trilogy,” which was released during late 1971. The song would also become an integral part of Elvis Presley’s stage act for the last 15 years of his life and, unfortunately, became associated more with him. Newbury has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and, at last count, over 1,000 artists have recorded his songs.

Paul McCartney working on pre-rock covers album

http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/image-library/partners/bang/port/376/1/1277378729-4.jpgSir Paul McCartney says his next album will feature the sort of music that people can wind down to and calls it ''get-home-from-work-music''.

Sir Paul McCartney is making a record of his "dad's style of music."

The 68-year-old former Beatles musician is recording a number of covers of tracks from the pre-rock era which remind him of his father's music taste.

He told RollingStone magazine: "It's my dad's style of music. It's get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine."

The 'Live and Let Die' musician will record the album with an orchestra and will also feature jazz singer Diana Krall and her band on a number of tracks.

It's my dad's style of music. It's get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine.

He also said he has wanted to make an album of covers in this style for a long time, but he felt it would be too close to Rod Stewart's 'American Songbook' collection.

He added: "I've wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since the Beatle days. But then Rod went mad on it. I thought, 'I have to wait so it doesn't look like I'm trying to do a Rod.' "

Although Paul won't disclose the tracklisting, he hopes the record will be out by early next year.

He added: "They're just songs I admire. I'm trying to steer away from the obvious ones."

The guitarist is also busy writing material for a "heavier rock" album and joked that after having a conversation with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl he might even copy what they did for their latest record and record in his garage.

He said: "It sounds quite wacky, but it keeps it fresh. I love that - you get a crazy idea and go with it. You never know - I may run into a garage to make this other album."

I've been pretty much in this 70s rock and roll kick and I want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that's just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a fuck, so well definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it."

Ke$ha who plays British music festivals Glastonbury and T in the Park, said that she would not rule out teaming up with one of her 70s idols to make the next album.
"I really would love to connect with one of my idols, I mean, that's my dream. I'm working on it."

Currently there is no release date for the next record. How it will sit with her current fans remains to be seen!

Dark Side of the Moon album cover voted greatest of all time

Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon: The greatest album cover of all time
Floyd’s top-ranked cover was one of many created for the band by design team Hipgnosis and featured no lettering. The 1973 album is one of the biggest sellers of all time.
It pipped Nirvana’s Nevermind in a poll of musicians and rock fans for music website MusicRadar.com.
‘The Dark Side Of The Moon is conclusive proof that one simple, enduring image is the winning formula when it comes to album artwork,’ said Will Groves, editor of MusicRadar.com.
‘The Floyd cover is a welcome reminder of a time when sleeve art meant much more than a jpeg a couple of hundred pixels wide in your iTunes library.’

Nevermind by Nirvana album cover
1991's Nevermind by Nirvana: Runner-up
It was revealed last week that Pink Floyd are to release previously unheard tunes after
settling a legal row with their music label. EMI.
Enhanced versions of The Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall albums will be included, in addition to live demos.
Digital versions of the band's 14 albums will be issued on September 26, while a recording of the classic Wish You Were Here - with jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli - will follow in February.

My Chemical Romance: 'We did 'Glee' to do the pop world some damage

http://static.nme.com/images/gallery/MyChemicalRomance2010DC081110.jpgMy Chemical Romance's Gerard Way has said the band let their single 'Sing' be featured on Glee in order to "do some damage" to the world of pop music.

Speaking to the News Of The World, Way also said the band had deliberately penned pop songs for their album 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys' in order to be "subversive."

Asked why the band gave permission for 'Sing' to be featured on Glee, Way replied: "We wanted to get in that pop world and do some damage. 'Sing' is an anthem attacking corporate society, and there it is on Glee."

Way also addressed the criticism the band have received from US right-wing political pundit Glenn Beck, who had described 'Sing' as "propaganda." The singer said of Beck's comments, "He hit out at us, that's brilliant - the song is attacking who it's meant to attack. It's good to know a rock band can still have that impact."

The singer additionally said the New Jersey rockers had deliberately penned pop songs for their fourth album 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys'. He said: "People have asked us why there are some pop songs on the new record and my response is: 'To be subversive'."

My Chemical Romance return to the UK in August to headline Reading And Leeds Festivals.

Avenged Sevenfold couldn’t co-exist with Portnoy

http://www.rockaaa.com/wp-content/gallery/bands/m_shadows.jpgAvenged Sevenfold’s frontman M Shadows says that ex- Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy could never have been a permanent replacement for the Rev.
Portnoy stepped into the breech after the death of original member Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan in 2009, recorded their 2010 album Nightmare and played on the subsequent tour, but relationships became strained leading to his departure earlier this year.
Speaking to Ultimate Guitar Shadows said that Portnoy was a godsend at the time but wasn’t a good fit for the longer term although he has no hard feelings:

“Yeah, we’re on good terms — it just got a little out of hand for a while there with us. And the way he runs his camp is a little different than we run ours. It couldn’t co-exist in that way and I’m really happy for him — I’m happy on a bunch of different levels. The Rev wrote those parts, Mike elaborated on them, and the record did really well. To me that’s a success all the way around.
“Mike helped us out in a time of need and he really stuck true to what Jimmy’s parts were, which we were really thankful for that”
The band swept the table at the recent Revolver Golden Gods Awards, taking four of the top prizes – with Portnoy lifting the trophy for best drummer, but Shadows didn’t find time to congratulate him:
“It was nice that we got to go in there and basically sweep those awards — it was really cool. And I’m sure Mike appreciates it as well. I didn’t get to talk to him afterwards but I know Zack [guitarist Zacky Vengeance] did and they exchanged some nice words. So it was good to see that he won that award.
The band have now found their man, with the addition of ex-Confide drummer Arin Ilejay who recorded recent single ‘Not Ready to Die’ before hitting the road with the band, and Shadows says that it was important for them to get it right this time round:
“What we were looking for was someone that was young and someone that was unknown. We wanted to give someone a chance that wasn’t completely jaded; we didn’t want them to feel it was a job. We wanted him to be a fan of the band and a fan of music and wanting to be out on the road and view this as their dream like all of us.
“One thing we didn’t want was some older session guy or some guy that just saw it as a gig — ’cause it’s not a gig, it’s like our life. It’s what we want to do for a long time. So basically we wanted a nice, young person that could obviously have the chops to play everything that’s been laid down before but also we wanted them to be able to have their own style.
“I didn’t know who he [Ilejay] was. We talked to our producer — Mike Elizondo — and we talked to Mike Fasano who was Jimmy’s in-studio drum tech and we said, “Hey, do you guys have anyone you could suggest?”
“Arin came in and just killed it. That was the first time I’d ever heard of him or seen him or met him and he came in and he was super skinny and small and he hits the drums like a beast. And it was like, “Whoa.” We were all kind of smiling like, “Wow, this kid’s got every chop down. Not only has he played everything right but he’s also transcribed everything right.” Which is good to us because you have to have an ear — you have to be able to hear what people are doing.

“He played everything Portnoy and Jimmy were playing to a tee. So we had a couple more sessions with him and he was just the perfect fit right off the bat — he just really blew us away and impressed us.
“It’s gonna take years for our fans and for people to understand what Arin’s style is and we’re still figuring it out ourselves. But he needed to have his own style and be his own drummer but at the same time be able to play everything Portnoy and The Rev laid down. So far he’s got two of those down and now we need to work on bringing out his style and what he can bring to the music.”

Cauldron Release New Music Video

Canadian heavy metal power trio Cauldron have released the video for their new single, “All or Nothing,” taken from the band’s sophomore album, Burning Fortune. Watch the clip below.
Commented singer/bassist Jason Decay: “The video is basically a concentrated day, or a final straw in the life of Cauldron. We based the concept around the lyrics of the song, which is a bit of an ongoing theme with Burning Fortune. We went for a bit of an edgy type of music video rather than the same old thing ’cause we figured we wouldn’t get played on TV anyway. It was directed by Kevin MacAllister who normally does videos for Lush Cosmetics. We got hooked up through a friend who used to work there and just went for it. Ian [Chain, guitarist]‘s scene is actually shot at the Lush factory in Toronto…”

Cauldron will join LA-based speed metal band Holy Grail for a North American tour starting on April 15. Cauldron will support Holy Grail on all U.S. dates, but due to an overwhelming demand from their Canadian fans, Cauldron will co-headline each date and play a longer set each night while in its homeland.

AEROSMITH Says No To American Idol Gig

According to the Bostonherald.com's Inside Track, AEROSMITH, fronted by new American Idol judge Steven Tyler, told the show’s producers last night to Dream On - the Bad Boys of Boston refuse to reunite onstage during the May 26 finale of the Fox TV singing contest.

Sources close to the band told the Track that the four other members of Aerosmith weren’t interested in playing the gig despite Tyler’s repeated pronouncements that the rockers would perform at the crowning of this season’s “American Idol.”

While no official reason was given for taking a pass on the highly rated national TV gig, sources said Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford would rather appear on Idol when the band has something to promote like an upcoming tour or a new album.

The 10 Mightiest Intros In Metal

Black Sabbath, ‘War Pigs’

Such powerful groove, such laid-back stances, such a whirling siren – these metal masters know full well you’ll keep waiting for the full metal shot in the face and unrivalled Ozzy wailing.

continued...

Metallica, ‘Seek And Destroy’

Majestic, epic, iconic and recognisable – Metallica have a whole back catalogue of incredible intros, but when this old tune wails across a venue/field it sends crowds into a fury. See them at Sonisphere this summer!

Iron Maiden, ‘Number Of The Beast’

The spooky spoken first moments (by actor Barry Clayton) are classic theatrical Maiden and one of the reasons these Brit legends stand apart from their oh-so-serious US counterparts. Setting the mood perfectly for the evil song that follows.

Sepultura, ‘Refuse Resist’

The drumming alone on this classic track defines Sepultura entirely. Part tribal Brazilian-sounding thumping, part traditional metal bass blasting – and leaping into one of their most distinctive high-speed head-banging riffs.

Refused, ‘New Noise’

Metal? Yeah I reckon. The happily/painfully long intro to this full-speed dance-floor riot, instantly sets pulses racing. Originally released in 1998, it still knocks the socks off all imitators.

Lamb Of God, ‘Laid To Rest’

LOG are beyond amazing 99% of the time anyway, but thanks to this shredding intro from their 2004 album ‘Ashes Of The Wake’ featuring on Guitar Hero II, now millions of people worldwide attempt to shred like Mark Morton and Willie Adler.

Slayer, ‘South Of Heaven’

Utterly compelling, devastating and apocalyptic, Slayer drop the pace just for a moment to allow one tiny breather in their set before Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman knock your block off.

Pantera, ‘I’m Broken’

So tough to pick which Pantera track, but this reminds me of the journey to Ozzfest 98 in Milton Keynes to watch my favourite band. Impossible to resist a slow-mo head-bang and their classic New Orleans southern groove.

The Dillinger Escape Plan, ‘Fix Your Face’

Kicking in with every instrument and vocal bark at 101% force on the first second takes some serious skill and timing, of which Dillinger have bucket loads. Remember to set volume a tad lower for this one or your ears might fall off.

Dream Evil, ‘The Book Of Heavy Metal’

Kicking off a track with a metal wail that would have even Rob Halford and Justin Hawkins quivering in their spandex takes some serious balls. A totally ridiculous and brilliant way to start a totally ridiculous and brilliant song. Hats off.

Lady Gaga performed new single 'Judas' at Cannes Film Festival yesterday

http://www.music-news.com/images/news/LadyGaga3.jpgLady Gaga performed her single 'Judas' at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday (11.05.11).

Despite the 'Bad Romance' hitmaker's record-breaking 'Monster Ball Tour' concluding in Mexico last week the singer hasn't stopped performing, appearing onstage at the event in a Matador styled black and gold outfit, which was completed with a red cape much like that used by bullfighters.

On stage Gaga was flanked by a number of backing dancers semi-clad in black and gold Romanesque style clothes and the live show, which was witnessed by a select crowd, was filmed for French TV show 'Le Grand Journal'.

The 25-year-old singer took to her twitter page to write about the experience, tweeting: 'Just performed in Cannes for Le Grand Journal. Amen, Magdalene Fashion! Thank you for supporting me!"

Earlier in the day, Gaga rehearsed for her appearance clad only in black lingerie, tights, studded leather boots and a huge black and white wig with a stark fringe.

Gaga's hectic schedule has seen her perform at the Robin Hood Foundation Annual Gala in New York City at the end of last week, before jetting to Europe.

She is scheduled to play a secret show in London tonight (12.05.11), ahead of an appearance at the Radio 1 Big Weekend festival on Sunday (15.05.11).

She tweeted this morning: "Just landed in London, so happy to be back in UK."

REVIEW - WILD BEATS: SMOTHER

http://images.dailystar-uk.co.uk/dynamic/25/281x351/190604_1.jpgOn last album Two Dancers, their favourite themes were love, lust, sex and violence, with front man Hayden Thorpe’s falsetto swooping and swooning through the tracks - almost aggressively at times.

These are just a few things that made the band many of the artists’ favourite to win last year’s Mercury Music Prize.

In the end The xx snaffled the gong but it clearly hasn’t dampened the boys’ enthusiasm and they return – album three - with just as good, if not better, a musical beast.

Over elaborate yet accessible arrangements, they don’t just get lusty (as on Plaything), they get dreamy, swoony and vulnerable, too.

As can be heard on the yearning, desire-soaked Bed Of Nails.

“I would lie anywhere with you, any old bed of nails for you,” sings Hayden over a track that has echoes of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Road.

Deeper is as romantic as gauzy curtains fluttering in the twilight-lit bedroom of two sleeping lovers.

If your idea of indie rock is The Enemy or The Courteeners, this isn’t for you.

If you like your eardrums to be challenged, soothed, tickled and seduced, then this IS for you

Music Review: Megson - Take Yourself A Wife

http://static-l3.blogcritics.org/11/05/10/159231/megson-take.jpg?t=20110510122350%22I first "discovered" this brilliant London, England-based folk music duo at a gig organized by a local gig-booking group called (shameless plug) Warthog Promotions, based at the nearby village of Lowdham (in England).
Megson are a husband/wife duo, consisting of Stu Hanna and Debbie Hanna-Palmer.

Take Yourself A Wife is their third album, which according to the Financial Times "was recorded while they were planning their wedding" and features their original takes on a collection of songs written by songwriters of North-Eastern England and ranging from 1700s-1900s.
Debbie contributes vocals and concertina, whereas Stu contributes vocals, octave mandola, mandolin, guitar, bass and fiddles.

My favourite number on this album is the title track, "Take Yourself A Wife" which is a call to a single man of 31 to hurry up and (funnily enough) take yourself a wife. That is closely followed by "Fourpence A Day", a story of a little child living in poverty and having to work as a washer boy for a pittance.

The whole album is quite mellow, although the faster numbers will (at the least) have you tapping your foot along with the beat. Of course, it helps that Stu and Debbie are both very accomplished folk musicians.

Lostprophets begin recording new album in Hollywood

http://static.nme.com/images/gallery/07531_153429_LostProphets_fredperry_01.jpgThe Welsh rockers are currently holed-up in the NRG Recording Studios in Los Angeles working on the follow-up to 2010's 'The Betrayed'. Andrews has previously worked with the likes of A Perfect Circle, Tenacious D and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Writing on his blog at Web.me.com/kenandrews, Andrews stated: "Lostprophets approached me in November of last year. They had a big hit here is the states in 2004... they have been relatively quiet here since, but that’s all about to change. This is a Sony project so I can’t post up any of the new material but I can say, without any bias at all, that this will be the best album these guys have ever made."

He added: ”They’re Welsh, so sometimes I can’t make out all the quick-fired humour, but I enjoy the accent overall. When your the only person not speaking that way, you start to speak their way unconsciously. Which is fun, until you get home!"

Google Music To Be Unveiled Today May 10

http://static.gigwise.com/artists/Image/googlelogo.jpgGoogle is set to launch a new cloud-based music service, Google Music, at its I/O conference today (May 10).
The service will be similar to one offered by Amazon, but will enable users to store up to 20,000 songs without charge.

Amazon only allow people to store around 2,000 songs before they have to pay a subscription fee for access to more memory.

Google had hoped to launch a more comprehensive service with support from all of the major record labels, which would enable it to sell music, but talks broke down and the company has decided to proceed on its own.

But in an interview with All Things Digital, Jamie Rosenberg, who oversees digital content and strategy for Google’s Android platform, said: “Unfortunately, a couple of the major labels were less focused on the innovative vision that we put forward, and more interested in in an unreasonable and unsustainable set of business terms.”

A spokesperson for Google has declined to comment on the new service.

Interview: Gordon Barr talks to Tulisa of N-Dubz

http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/nechronical/apr2011/3/2/200-n-dubz-486177691.jpgUrban group N-Dubz make their Metro Radio Arena debut on April 22. Entertainment Editor Gordon Barr poses a few questions to Tulisa

Your first ever arena tour – how does that make you feel?

It’s crazy. I mean the fact we’re selling out and playing to arenas is such an achievement in itself, but we’re also the first UK urban act to do an arena tour and that’s pretty special. It’s all because of our fans and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today and we never forget that. We’re putting on a big show that’s going to be unmissable.

It’s been a long-time coming (almost a decade). Did you ever lose that self-belief?

No, not at all. We’ve come from nothing and created a career for ourselves. You’ve got to be proud of that and what you’ve achieved because eventually you’ll convince other people of your talent and your worth if you keep on.

What has been the glue that has kept you together this amount of time in the fickle world of the music business?

We’re family and we’re there for each other all the time. I don’t think we know any differently to what we do. And when I’m not working, I chill out at home in a tracksuit, make dinner and watch TV, snuggle up with my dogs and that’s it. We’ve never really done the showbiz party thing excessively – of course we all like to have fun, but we’re all down to earth.

You have carved out something of a niche market for yourselves. Have the past three years been something of a whirlwind/dream for you?

I feel like our hard work is paying off, but it’s been a lifetime coming so no, it’s not been a dream as such! Things get so busy that you can’t always take in exactly when and what is happening, but there’s no one else like N-Dubz out there and I like that!

I’ve got a lot of friends of a certain age (ie over 40) who love N-Dubz. How does that make you feel?

Our fans are varied and that’s a brilliant thing. I love that we appeal to all ages. We’ve got five-year-old fans that listen to our songs and then grandparents too! We talk about real issues and real things that people can relate to whether you’re eight or 80.

What does the arena tour have in store for the fans?

I can’t give too much away but it’s going to be huge! We’ve all come up with ideas for the tour and there are three different themes which are almost like character themes. But we’re going to have a lot of fun and dress up! You’ll just have to come down and check it out!

Any thoughts on Newcastle?

We have a wicked time in Newcastle and our fans are always up for a good time! We never get enough time to explore cities on tour so it would be great to come back and see the sights one day soon.

The future ... You have changed your style over the years, is this something you will continue to do?

As an artist you have to keep evolving and doing new things to keep your fans interested. Naturally your sound and your style is going to change as you get older. We started when we were really young so of course our style is going to change as we grow up and learn and experience different things. We’re always thinking of the next step, you’ve got to keep pushing forward but we’ll always be N-Dubz and no matter what happens, we’ll always have that distinctive N-Dubz style and sound.

Anyone you would give your eye teeth to work with?

There’s tons of artists killing it at the moment but I’ve been loving Nicki Minaj for ages and it’s great that she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves and has worked hard for. So maybe me and Nicki can team up for a female anthem!

Kasabian city concert sells out in minutes

http://www.thestar.co.uk/polopoly_fs/kasabian_tickets_dscf0650_1_3360389!image/3159763852.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_595/3159763852.jpgARENA rock giants Kasabian have sold out an intimate concert at the O2 Academy Sheffield in nine minutes - making them one of the fastest-selling bands at the venue, writes digital editor Geraham Walker.

And these lucky guitar-playing fans at the front of the queue – who queued all night and entertained others with Kasabian songs – said it made getting their hands on the £30 tickets even more special for the gig on June 4.

“We just feel sorry for fans who didn’t get them. We knew they would sell out fast – but nine minutes, that’s crazy,’’ said first-in-line Matt Webster, aged 19, from Aston.

He turned up the previous evening with Failed Theory bandmate Adam South, 18, of Shiregreen, and pals Danny Hodgett, 19, of Southall, and Danny Blagg, 18, of Aston, who camped out with fold-up chairs and a box of beer.

Venue marketing co-ordinator Nicole Jewitt organised tea and biscuits for fans.

Tickets went on sale yesterday at 9am and by nine minutes past the entire allocation of around 2,000 tickets had been snapped up by queuing fans, internet and phone callers, who were allowed up to four tickets each.

Nicole said: “I’ve never known a band sell out as quickly as this. We feel for those who didn’t manage to get a ticket but we did warn people to expect this one to sell out fast. Kasabian play arenas and this is an intimate gig as a warm-up to their festival appearances. We’re delighted to have the show here.”

Kate Bush new album inspired by fertiliser

http://www.music-news.com/images/news/Kate-Bush.jpgThe 'Wuthering Heights' singer has revealed she has experienced a flow of creativity since she rested a bag of organic bone meal ' a garden fertiliser created from ground animal bones ' on her piano. And it could lead to her releasing her first studio album since 2005's 'Aerial'.

In an interview on British station BBC Radio 4, she said: ' was en route to the garden and put a packet of bone meal on my piano. It seems to be helping the blossoming of the songs so I thought I'd just leave it there.'

Following her recent spell of songwriting, Kate has even hinted she could be prepared to tour again - despite having only ever going on the road for a run of shows once in 1979.

The 52-year-old musician ' who has spent most of the last 18 years avoiding the spotlight - revealed: 'A lot of people think I didn't enjoy touring. I did - it was like being in the circus. I'd hate to say I'd never do it again.'

Kate releases 'The Director's Cut', an album which contains 11 reworked tracks from her earlier LPs 'The Sensual World' and 'The Red Shoes' on May 16.

New Jersey Rock History: More Than Big Hair and the Boss

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2011/05/08/nyregion/08SUBSPOTNJ/08SUBSPOTNJ-articleLarge.jpgIN “Jersey Rocks: A History of Rock & Roll in the Garden State,” a new exhibition at the Morris Museum in Morristown that will run through Sept. 5, the background music may be as interesting for some visitors as the 400 or so objects on display. “Stacy’s Mom,” the 2003 hit by the pop band Fountains of Wayne, whose front man, Adam Schlesinger, grew up in Montclair, was followed recently by “Walk on By,” the 1960s classic made famous by Dionne Warwick, who was raised in Newark and now lives in South Orange.

“I think people are going to come to the show with a lot of preconceived notions” about what — or who — best represents rock music in New Jersey, said Claudia Ocello, 44, the co-curator with Ellen Snyder-Grenier of the exhibition and the president of Museum Partners Consulting in Morristown. “I’m excited about helping them walk away with a different perspective.”

That does not mean the show ignores the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi. The former is represented by early performance photographs lent by Carrie Potter Devening of Waco, Tex.; she is the granddaughter of Tom and Margaret Potter, who founded the long-shuttered Upstage Club in Asbury Park. The museum will host a launch party on Friday featuring the E Street Shuffle, a Springsteen tribute band. Bon Jovi artifacts on display include a guitar signed by members of the band in the 1990s and lent by a longtime fan, Kathy Francis of Cedar Knolls.

A sizable chunk of the 4,200-square-foot gallery is devoted to rock figures from less-celebrated eras and sensibilities, including the Duprees, a ’60s doo-wop group.

Tom Bialoglow, a singer for the Jersey City group who now lives in Pompton Lakes, lent a turquoise tuxedo jacket that he wore in the photo on the cover of the album “You Belong to Me.” Likewise, Dennis Diken, drummer for the Smithereens, which formed in 1980 in Carteret and released a new album last month, contributed drum covers emblazoned with the group’s logo.

Three media stations will show videos throughout the exhibition: one is a montage of performers; another shines a spotlight on the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s roots of New Jersey rock ’n’ roll; and a third is a trailer for the documentary “The Last Bastions of Rock,” written and directed by Fritch Clark of Franklin Township.

Ms. Ocello says she believes visitors will be surprised by the range of the state’s contributions to rock. “So much of what happened here was pivotal in the advancement of the music,” she said.
